Six people went missing after a vehicle they were travelling in was attacked by unidentified armed men along the Juba-Yei road on Sunday, the Minister of Information in Yei River State has announced.

Mr Stephen Ladu says the incident took place in Gbungu village, after the passenger car crossed over to Jubek.

“Three of the nine passengers reported to a nearby army base,” Mr Ladu told Eye Radio, “then the six were taken to the bush.”

He added the attackers set the vehicle ablaze before vanishing into the forest.

Mr Ladu added that the state authorities are working with their counterparts in Jubek to get further details.

For the last few months, there have been reports of insecurity along the road.

The Minister of Local Government in Jubek, Isaac Ribek, has confirmed the latest incident of missing people.

But he says they are yet to receive more information on the number of missing people and whether there were casualties.
