Aid organizations are being asked to assist returnees in Aweil with food and non-food items.

Aweil South County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission say those who returned from Khartoum and other parts of Sudan have been unable to integrate into the communities due to lack of shelter and food scarcity.

The RRC Secretary in the County, Daniel Dut says that the assistance being provided by the International Organization for Migration does not extend those who have not been registered officially by the IOM or the government.

Dut said IOM is only supporting those that were formally repatriated and not those who returned on their own.

“Those who have no relatives to assist them and no assistance from the government are referred to the community to help them out. We tell the community people that these are people your people and you need to assist them,” he said. “Those who receive food from organizations should at least help those who are vulnerable and unable to receive any assistance. We urge the community to give them at least four kilo grams of sorghum distributed to two people. Some have been cooperating and this is how they survive, but the returnees who came alone get no assistance.”

Mister Dut said the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Aweil South County has asked the South Sudan Red Cross to assist the returnees with non-food items.
