Most activities at the Bor Civil Hospital have been suspended due to shortage of fuel to run the generators, Jonglei state official has said.

The Minister of Health, Angok Gordon Kuol, says only emergency operations can now be performed in the theater at the state health facility.

He told Eye Radio that the state government is trying to the use of solar power.

“We are planning actually to cut usage of fuel by half or three quarters so that by night, we shift to solar system so that it gives light to the wards,” said Mr Kuol.

However, Mr Kuol did not specify what impact the shortage of fuel would have on the recovery of patients in the hospital.

Traders say they could not supply enough fuel due to the scarcity of the US dollars, which has also led to a rise in food prices.

He has warned that the rise of prices would lead to high cases of malnutrition.
