The Office of the President has confirmed that President Salva Kiir will travel to Khartoum tomorrow for a meeting with his Sudanese Counterpart, President Omar Bashir.

The two leaders will discuss ways for implementing the 2012 Cooperation Agreement between South Sudan and Sudan.

“The President will travel to Khartoum tomorrow, and he will be discussing in Khartoum with President Omar El-Bashir a number of issues—including the issues of borders, issue of Abyei, the issue of peace in South Sudan process in Addis Ababa and the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement,” Ateny Wek Ateny, Press Secretary in the office of the President, told Eye Radio’s Sundown Program.

Mr. Ateny also said President Kiir will use the opportunity of his meeting with Bashir to find out why the Sudan Armed Forces bombed areas inside Raja County in Western Bahr el-Ghazal State yesterday.

Yesterday, a suspected Sudanese warplane bombarded Raja, wounding at least 16 civilians. The motive of the bombardments is unknown.

“He will use the forum ….to discuss with President el-Bashir as to why Khartoum has subjected Raja to aerial bombardment, and what has provoked that aerial bombardment.”

This will be the second visit of President Salva Kiir to Khartoum since the conflict erupted in South Sudan in December last year.
