One of the suspects in connection with the killing of former mayor of Yei municipality has escaped, according to Police.

Cecilia Oba and her office manager Emmanuel Lemi were found dead at a construction site in the Jebel area, along Yei road 10 days ago.

As a result, four suspects were arrested. It’s not clear how the man escaped.

The Police Commissioner in Central Equatoria State, General Henry Danima, told Eye Radio the unnamed fugitive is being tracked by the police.

“We are now pursuing him,” he said.

Gen. Henry Danima said police expects more suspects, saying the circumstances of the killing show it was done by more than five people.

The killing of Ms Oba caused a public outcry, particularly in her home area – Yei.

Civil society leaders in Yei held processions to ‘show to the leaders that the people… are tired of this continuous disappearance of our people’.

They also presented a petition to the municipal authorities, security organs and church leaders in the county after the killing.
