An SSPDF soldier has been arrested in Aweil South County of North Bhar el Gazal State for having allegedly killed his father with a stick on Wednesday.

Aweil South Chief Inspector for Police, Brig. Mabior Deng says the incident happened in Panthou Payam on Wednesday.

The police official says the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Akol Akec killed his elderly father Akec Bol Bol after a dispute between the two men.

The young man reportedly hit his father on the head with a big stick.

“This person is a soldier of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, and a dispute occurred between them for unknown reasons, so he hit his father with a stick in the head,” said Brig. Deng.

According to the security official, the deceased 68-year-old man passed away on Thursday in Aweil Hospital where he was taken for treatment.

The police added that suspect Akol has been arrested by police and is awaiting a further investigation into the case.

“He (victim) was taken to the Aweil Hospital, and the police arrested him (son). The accident happened on Wednesday and the father died on Thursday.”

“We are now awaiting the outcome of the investigation to find out the cause of the accident, as well as to hear the witnesses and the accused.”
