Residents of Yei County, Central Equatoria State have taken to the streets to protest the murder of the Former County Mayor, and her Office Manager.

Civil Society organizations also took part in the protests, urging organized forces to strengthen security, peace and protection of civilians in the country.

A secretary general from one of the organizations, Dara Felix said the demonstration said there is need to put an end to the continuous disappearance of people in the country.

“It is important because it will show to the leaders that the people of South Sudanese are tired of this continuous disappearance of our people. Secondly it is to tell the police and the SPLA that they have a role; our constitution says the SPLA must protect the South Sudanese, the police act of 2009 says the police must protect, combat, investigate.” He said.

Mr. Dara says the civil society activists in Yei have presented a petition to the municipal authorities, the security organs and church leaders in the county.

The bodies of the former Yei County Mayor, Cecilia Oba and her Office Manager, Emmanuel Lemi were found in Jebel on Sunday.
