Sudanese government has evacuated 68 of its nationals who were stranded at the United Nations’ protection of civilians’ site in Bentiu, Unity State.

The individuals, who came to the country as businesspeople, left Juba for Khartoum yesterday.

Those evacuated were amongst those who sought refuge at the UNMISS base during clashes between the SPLA and the SPLA in-Opposition forces in the area last month.

The deputy head of mission at Sudan Embassy in Juba, Majdi Ahmed Muvadal, said the evacuation of the Sudanese nationals from Bentiu was done in collaboration with the UN Mission in South Sudan.

“The Sudanese Embassy in Juba yesterday evacuated a group of its nationals who were stranded at the UN Camp in Bentiu town,” Mr Ahmed confirmed.

He told Eye Radio that the International Organization for Migration also facilitated the process.

Initially, they were 87. About 19 of them chose to stay behind.

Mr. Ahmed said the 19 men were not evacuated together with their colleagues because they have some family commitments forced them not to travel.

There thousands of Sudanese traders in the country, mostly in Juba and other state capitals.
