South Sudan HIV and AIDS Commission says it has set a new target of 2030 for the country to have a zero HIV infection.

Earlier this week the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Esterina Novelo, attended the Eastern and Southern African Regional Workshop. It’s aim was to set new targets for HIV response in Africa.

Dr. Novelo told Eye Radio that her Commission wants to put everyone who is HIV positive on treatment:

Dr. Novelo urged the people of South Sudan to participate in the prevention of HIV.

“It is our responsibility, all of us we have to take care of our nation and we have to make sure that our children grow in the healthy nation. For us to do so, all of us have to kick out HIV from this country whereby we have to aim to achieve our vision by 2030 no HIV in South Sudan”, she said.

Dr. Novelo said the current HIV and AIDS prevalence in the country at the moment stands at 2.6 percent.
