The Mayor of Torit Municipality has been suspended.

Stephen Osfaldo has been accused of demolishing the main Torit market without permission.

The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, issued an executive order. suspending Mr Osfaldo from office.

In a statement, Governor Lobong said he is acting on the recommendation of the County Municipal Council. It called for the impeachment of the mayor.

A committee has been formed to investigate allegations brought against Stephen Osfaldo.

Mr. Stephen Osfaldo was appointed Mayor of Torit in October last year.

The committee will submit its finding to the office of the Governor within seven days.
