Nearly one thousand people who have been displaced by recent floods are in dire need of assistance. According to authorities in Twic East, Jonglei.

The County Commissioner, Dau Akoi, says the floods also destroyed a health center and a school.

He says cases of diseases are also on the rise due to stagnant water.

“The people who have been displaced are in need of food assistance, they also need none-food items,” Mr Dau said. “They want medicine because it is cold now and many people are suffering from pneumonia and malaria.”

Commissioner Dau also said roads in the area are impassable because of the floods.

The population in Twic East is displaced by floods every year, area officials say.
