The Governor of Upper Nile State James Koang Chuol has directed all state ministers who are still in Juba to return immediately to Malakal and resume their official duties.

The directive followed the first Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Governor Koang since his appointment in May.

During the cabinet meeting in Malakal on Thursday, the Council approved a decision requiring ministers based in Juba to report back to the state capital.

State Minister of Information and Communication Peter Ngwojo said all ministers, including those who travelled on leave, official assignments, or with permission, must return to Malakal without delay.

“Some ministers went on leave, some took permission and others are on duty within the country and outside. Those who have finished their workshops and those who went on leave should return as soon as possible because we want the forum to be full. We are starting late and it is almost the end of July,” he said.

“In a year, we are supposed to conduct about 48 Council of Ministers sittings. It is provided for in the constitution, and we are also starting to hold two meetings per week so that we can catch up with time,” he added.

Ngwojo said the decision is aimed at ensuring the Council of Ministers resumes its regular meeting schedule and carries out its constitutional responsibilities.
