The government of Western Bhar al-Ghazal says it has formed a police taskforce to fight rising crimes in Wau Town.

There have been reports of increasing rape cases in the area. Two women died of injuries they sustained during gang rapes a week ago.

The Mayor of Wau Town, Arkanglo Anyar Anyar, says the government decided to form the taskforce to trace and arrest suspected criminals.

“One mandate is to create awareness among the people and the citizens of Wau town, informing them on these crimes so that the citizens cooperate with the government particularly the security organs,” Mr. Anyar.

Mr. Anyar said it is the first time the state is witnessing the current crime rate in Wau Town.
